Shionogi pays $2B for rare disease biotech IntraBio

Japan's Shionogi agreed to acquire Texas-based IntraBio for $2 billion, adding the marketed drug Aqneursa for Niemann-Pick disease type C and Ataxia-Telangiectasia. IntraBio reported sales of $68 million in 2025. The purchase follows Shionogi's acquisitions of Radicava and Tetra Therapeutics as it builds out a rare neurodegenerative disease franchise.

Why it matters: Shionogi is buying commercial-stage revenue rather than pipeline risk, a template Japanese pharma increasingly uses to expand in the U.S.

GE HealthCare to buy SOFIE Biosciences for $945M from Trilantic

GE HealthCare agreed to acquire SOFIE Biosciences, a U.S. contract manufacturer of PET radiopharmaceuticals, from Trilantic North America for $945 million in cash. SOFIE operates 15 CMO sites and already manufactures GE HealthCare's Flyrcado F18 product; it will join the PDx pharmaceutical diagnostics segment on closing, expected in the first half of 2027. GE HealthCare also gains U.S. rights to pipeline tracer FAPI-74.
