MGM CEO won't rule out a bid for Barry Diller's People Inc.

MGM Resorts CEO Bill Hornbuckle said the casino group will pursue whatever unlocks value for shareholders when asked whether it might acquire People Inc., days after the Diller-controlled media company withdrew its $48.30-per-share proposal to buy the rest of MGM. People Inc. owns roughly 27% of MGM and remains its largest shareholder; MGM shares traded near $32 before the remarks.

Why it matters: A role reversal between target and bidder would be an unusual twist in an already heated round of casino dealmaking.
