Malteurop buys Chunlei Malting plant, a 220,000-tonne site in China

VIVESCIA's malting business Malteurop has acquired the Chunlei Malting Co. plant near Yancheng in Jiangsu province, which can produce 220,000 tonnes of malt a year, enough for 2 billion liters of beer. The deal, finalized this summer, was celebrated today. Malteurop is the only foreign commercial malt producer in China. Terms were not disclosed.

Why it matters: The French cooperative is scaling up in China 30 years after entering, targeting Asian and export brewing customers.
